A Sudoku Break: Interruptions, Restart and Session Limits
A break does not require finishing a Sudoku. You can work on one deduction and stop entering digits. On this native board, the practical question is which actions preserve state and which discard it. There is no promised solving time, pause timer or resumable save.
What each action keeps
| Action | Puzzle and difficulty | Entries and notes | Undo history |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop interacting while the page runtime survives | Same | Kept in memory | Kept |
| Select a cell or toggle Pencil notes | Same | Unchanged | Unchanged |
| Check entries | Same | Unchanged | Unchanged |
| Undo | Same | Previous entry or note state | Last change removed |
| Confirm Restart | Same puzzle and difficulty | Reset to givens; notes cleared | Cleared |
| Confirm New game | Newly generated puzzle at current difficulty | New givens; notes cleared | Cleared |
| Confirm a difficulty change | Newly generated puzzle at chosen difficulty | New givens; notes cleared | Cleared |
| Cancel a discard prompt | Original puzzle and difficulty | Kept | Kept |
| Reload or leave the page | Previous board is not recoverable through this site | Previous progress lost | Previous history lost |
The homepage and dedicated Sudoku page have separate page sessions. Following the Sudoku link from the homepage does not carry that board into the dedicated page.
When the discard prompt appears
An editable cell with a normal entry, or any pencil note, counts as progress. Restart, New game and a difficulty change ask before discarding that progress. Merely selecting a cell, switching pencil mode or checking untouched givens does not count.
Cancel keeps the current puzzle. Canceling a difficulty change also returns the selector to its original difficulty. Confirm clears entries, notes and history; Undo cannot bring back the discarded state.
If you erase all entries and notes, there is no current progress to trigger the prompt, even if Undo history exists. Starting again can therefore clear that history without another warning. Check the board before choosing a reset action.
Three interruption scenarios
You need to stop entering numbers. Stop interacting. Completing the puzzle does not automatically start another one, and no countdown forces your next input. The current state stays in memory only while this page’s browser runtime survives.
You want to redo the same puzzle. Choose Restart. Cancel the prompt if you still want the current entries; confirm only when you intend to return to the same givens. New game generates another board instead of replaying this one.
You need to close, reload or navigate away. Treat progress as disposable. The site has no game archive, export or restore button. A browser or operating system may discard a background tab and reload it later, so a tab that looks open is not a saved checkpoint.
Finish a deduction rather than a time target
Choose a small task, such as checking one unresolved cell’s candidates, then explain why a digit fits before entering it. You can stop with blanks remaining. Check saying “No incorrect entries found” establishes only that filled entries match; it neither certifies completion nor validates notes.
Use solving basics for deductions and the input guide for controls. This table describes native Sudoku, not saving behavior inside unavailable GameDistribution games.
